Can dance make us laugh? Although "comical" and "hilarious" are terms that do not often come up when discussing dance, some choreographers have taken the road less travelled into the world of humour. In the 1920s, the dancer Valeska Gert led the way by playing with the register of burlesque. Today's scene is no exception, with choreographers having fun with discrepancies and surprising audiences with funny and unexpected situations.
